TL;DR at bottom, this is a long review

So, I wish I could give this game a neutral recommendation. This game either doesn't something right, or, does it wrong. It's the best Milestone game out there in the way that you look for the cleanest of your dirtiest shirts. I want to like this game more than I do, yet I don't regret buying it. It has very good visuals and an immersive feel to it. I also like the racing format. The weekly schedule with racing, training, promotional stuff is a nice addition. The idea of the game is great.

My problem with the game is the physics. This has been the problem for all Milestone MX games. The physics in this game are the best they have produced, but it still needs much work. On the ground, the bikes' suspension reacts awkwardly and slow. Adjusting settings do have a noticeable impact. Bike is doing 50 mph, wheels look like they're doing 20. Your rider has plastic ankles and cannot handle casing a landing. Come up short on a triple and prepare to crash. One because plastic ankles, two because you probably won't make it even on a 450. You have to be precise. Touch any of the tuff blocks/hay bales if you dare. You will immediately fall over, no questions asked. The clutch works better in this game over the previous one. However, it will still kill your momentum if you use it for anything other than starts. Despite all of this, I do feel on ground physics are an improvement. Whoops feel much better.

Scrubs deserve a whole paragraph. They are freer than they have been and are still pitiful. Milestone seems to be convinced that moving controller sticks opposite to each other is the best way to initiate a scrub. This is awkward. This doesn't make sense in a game or real world. Mx Vs Atv does this better because they know bike and rider lean together. In this game, you do have to bring the bike back around. But it is slow and painfully awkward to do so. The greatest issue with scrubbing is that it doesn't flow. It still feels and looks like you're initiating an animation and that's because you are for the most part. It's not natural. The way this game handles scrubbing renders it of no value. I hardly ever do them.

This game is also grindy when it comes to unlocking items. It's annoying how much everything costs compared to how much you earn. You have to choose between customizing your bike first or your rider. You can't afford to do both. Milestone needs to calm down. There's no reason a pair of boots and an exhaust system should be almost equivalent in price in a video game. Also, the rider celebration is badly executed. It would be better if you could ride all the way through the finish without a cinematic camera and animations.

The best thing Milestone could do is:
1. Study riding videos and pay attention to how the bike and rider react to the track/trail and in the air.
2. Actually ride a dirt bike to experience how off their physics are to real world.
3. Stop tweaking the physics and start over.

TL;DR
This game could be so much better than it is. It looks amazing. The immersion is awesome. The physics drag this game down so much. They feel better than previous Milestone games, but that's only relative. I do not recommend this game at full price.

Pros:
Visuals/Graphics
Race structure
Immersive Career Mode
Rider/Bike Customization

Cons:
Physics
Scrubbing
Gear and bike parts costs are too damn high. Oh Good Lord Poor AI

Thought the game was good through the 250 championship. Strong field, riders who were supposed to be up top were up top. Don't get me wrong, poor AI in 250 championship and just trying to stay on the track during starts and any sort of traffic was a nightmare. AI Riders literally all over the place on the track, you hit them and they ride away, they hit you and you rag doll. Any real throttle coming out of some corners, and bike slides around SO fast, even in moderation its horrible. To go along with the poor AI 3 races into the 450 championship and riders like Jason Anderson, Eli Tomac, etc averaging mid-pack finishes, and riders like Weston Peick, Vince Friese, and Benny Blose are winning races and leading points battle 1, 2, and 3. Its just a little bit concerning. As a matter of fact, I don't think Cooper Webb has even made a Main Event in my gameplay. Im so confused.. First of all this game is not perfect! BUT it has qualities that cannot be beat! The graphics are amazing and the atmosphere feels like I am at a real MESX event. As someone that races motocross I can respect the arcade level of this game. The game is a little stiff in the air and in some aspects of corning where its almost impossible to square a turn or cut down. As for the rhythms its a hit or miss, some of the rhythms are tricky and realistic some are not made well at all where timing does not matter. SO SHOULD YOU BUY THIS GAME?! I dont know? Give it a go and see! This game is not a sim and its not for everyone so race a few races and abuse the refund system if you feel it has no room to grow on you. DO NOT BASE YOUR PURCHASE OFF OF THE REVIEWS, WATCH GAME PLAY OR LIKE I SAID ABUSE THE REWARD SYSTEM!!!!!!!. Game isn't bad considering the only competition in this dying genre is literal dog♥♥♥♥♥♥ With that being said this game has been out for 3 months and i haven't seen a single bug I reported to the milestone website fixed and it almost feels as if the game has been abandoned.. Its basicly the same game as last year with some career tweaks and some track editor tweaks. They say they made it harder and more realistic however i feel they just made it hard to turn and you wreck ALOT on landings. Overall the game is ok. I personally will never be buying another one of these games. They are treating it like madden and releasing a new game every year with very small changes. For me this is not worth the money if you have supercross 1. very disappointed.

Whips are still very bad and not unlocked.
Terrain does not deform or even make ruts. Even on long and real thing.
Turning feels like you are turning a semi truck not a dirtbike.
character creator is very weak and lacking.
track editor is very weak and lacking.. This game is a really good game in my opinion. The physics are much better then MXGP PRO and air physics are better then the old SX game.

one bad thing is that there are nearly nothing new in the gears and helmet section, well for example FXR and Unit are new to the game but there are barely any new fox, ANSR, Thor gear and they have produced new gear IRL. same on helmet and boot side, there are nearly nothing new and that really sucks in my opinion.
Bike Graphics are also the same as previous years, I mean it can not be so hard to make some new designs. There are also no Factory gear or graphics so that sucks but there is MODS that is super easy to download so you get that but still would be nice to have that in the game OG.

There are also no 2 strokes in the game, and that is the most bad thing about the game in my opinion i mean there was 2 strokes in MXGP PRO so why throw it away again. Well just to hop that they add it in a update or a DLC.

The new compound are tho the best made this far, super fun and gnarly tracks to ride and big open areas to ride around and play around on. You need to make progress in the Career to unlock the tracks and different areas around the tracks but still solid work on the compound.

I still think this is a good game and the physics and graphics are amazing so it is still a game worth buying if you like motocross and SX. The compound is super cool and fun and well even if there is old gear and graphic kits i think this is a solid game and really fun. And like i said, there are MODS to download so you get new kits and factory gear so if you do that it is no problem on the gear and graphic kit side either. Milestone is getting lazier and lazier. You would think with each new game they would be getting better at what they are doing, but no. Not in this case. There aren't many big things wrong with the game except the whips, which are better than they were before, but they are still bad. Its the little issues that ruin this game. And this game has quite a few. You would think using Unreal Engine 4, it would perform well, but this is not the case. This game runs terribly. My PC is more than capable to play this game. I can play GTA 5 at 4k max settings and keep a consistent 60. Some of the little issues are that when you touch a tuff block, you crash. Its insane. No one with any sort of skill would fall off a bike touching a tuff block. The game cuts your power when it thinks you will blowout. And every time it has done that to me, I wouldn't have blownout. Another issue is that you have to beat the entire game to unlock everything in the compound. This is silly. Its the compound, it should be a place that's open and free, but instead I have to play hours and hours against the♥♥♥♥♥♥AI to earn my freedom.

Overall: This game is boring and lazily made, don't buy it.. way better then the first one
